10 Snack Ideas for Diabetics at Work

It’s 3:00 PM and you’re feeling a little hungry while you’re working away at your desk. If you have diabetes, grabbing a handful of some candy in the office’s kitchen probably isn’t a great idea. It is important to know the content and amount of what is going in to your body. Unfortunately, there probably aren’t many things to snack on that are low-carb in your office kitchen. Snacks should be in the range of 10-20 carbohydrates and should be added to your daily count of carbohydrates. Thanks to the American Diabetes Association, here are 10 snack ideas for diabetics at work (or anywhere)!

  1. ¼ cup dried fruit and nut mix
  2. 1 small apple or orange
  3. 3 cups of light popcorn
  4. ¼ cup cottage cheese + ½ cup canned or fresh fruit
  5. 1 cheese quesadilla (6-inch corn or whole wheat tortilla + 1 oz shredded cheese) + ¼ cup salsa
  6. 2 rice cakes (4-inch diameter) + 1 Tablespoon of peanut butter
  7. 5 whole wheat crackers + 1 piece of string cheese
  8. ½ turkey sandwich (1 slice whole wheat bread + 2 oz turkey + mustard)
  9. ½ cup tuna salad + 4 saltines
  10. 5 celery sticks + (up to) 4 tablespoons of peanut butter

Obviously, your workplace probably won’t have all of the things on this list. However, there are a few different approaches you could take. The first option would be bring a large amount of whatever snack you would like for the whole office to share. If you don’t want to do this, you could just bring small portions in every day (or enough to last you for a few days) and put it in the refrigerator with your name on it!
