In the United States alone, a staggering 29.1 million people have diabetes. This number coincides with almost 10 percent of the population. It should be noted that around 90-95 percent of those cases are type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is different from type 1 in the sense that it is a direct result of poor diet and lack of exercise. This means given the proper precautions it is a preventable condition that is taking the country by storm. There are a fair amount of celebrities who share the condition, and here are a few of them.

Tom Hanks


Tom Hanks, a well known actor, recently was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. He was diagnosed in October, 2014, at age 58. This was a result of his rapid weight gain and weight loss for many different movie roles he participated in.

Paula Deen


Paula Deen is known for being a chef on Food Network. Her recipes on her show mostly consisted of unhealthy ingredients over the years. After being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, she made the step towards a more healthy cooking style to accommodate her condition, and help those who watch her show.

Randy Jackson


Randy Jackson is best known for his role as a singing judge on the competition show, American Idol. He was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at age 46. This was because of his high blood sugar levels and his heavy weight. He was already at risk for diabetes because he had a family history with the disease. He has since made improvements to his lifestyle to improve his health and help with his diabetes.

Larry King


Larry King is a famous TV host, who has run a few incredibly popular talk shows over the years. He doesn’t have an exact time for when he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, but has started taking medication and dealing with the condition ever since he was instructed to do so by his doctor.

Tracy Morgan is a popular actor and comedian, being recognized for shows such as Saturday Night Live. He was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 1996. When he was diagnosed he didn’t show any concern, until his condition worsened and he was forced to take action to recover his overall health.
