Celebrity Sherri Shepherd Beat Diabetes and Lost 66 Pounds

Sherri Shepherd, an actress best known for her Co- hosting of The View on ABC, as well as her roles in various TV shows, like 30 Rock, How I Met Your Mother, and Everybody Loves Raymond, has gone through an amazing transformation, losing 66 pounds through a diet of low carbs and no sugars.

Sherri has gone through many difficult changes this year, including leaving The View and a nasty divorce with her soon to be ex-husband Lamar Sally. Shepherd also has to take care of her 9 year old son, Jeffrey, who was born prematurely and has developmental delays.

Despite these challenges, the actress manages to do a Zumba workout every night, and if she can’t make it to a class, she’ll just pop in a DVD and do it at home, she told ABC News. Her determination started in 2007 when she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

The actress dramatically changed her diet in the hopes of losing weight and avoiding the toll of this disease, as she had experienced it before, her mother having died at 41 from diabetes. At the time of her diagnosis, Sherri weighed around 197 pounds, having a height of only 5’1”.

Shepherd’s diet was mainly composed of low-sugar and low-carb foods as wells as three different types of diabetes medication. She is no longer required to take the medication, however, and capitalized on her success in her own health in a book about her struggle against weight loss and diabetes, entitled Plan D: How to Lose Weight and Beat Diabetes.

The actress promotes exercise daily, explaining that the way to do so isn’t always to join a gym for strength training, but to use things around the house, such as water bottles or cans of food, or to buy a set of weights for use around the house.

The celebrity’s life has been changed for the better by her work on her health, and even though she is going through a lot of tough times, it is reported that her leaving The View is bittersweet and she is looking forward to all the good that change can bring.
