Glucose Meter Recall Due to Incorrect Measurement

Nipro Diagnostics is recalling certain TRUEtrack and TRUEbalance blood glucose meters due to the glucose reading being in mmol/L instead of mg/dL.

If patients did not notice that the readings were being given in mmol/L, their results could be lower than expected.

The company is recalling 501 affected TRUEbalance meters and 105 affected TRUEtrack meters which were distributed anywhere from September 2008 to May 2013. Nipro stated that customers should check their website using the serial number in order to see if their meter is affected.

The FDA would like all clinicians to report any related adverse side effects. However as of now, Nipro has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall.
